A DENBIGHSHIRE-based provider of care and support services within the community has launched an ambitious recruitment drive as it prepares to open its third residential site in early 2022.

ProCare Wales, which is celebrating its 20th year in business, is looking to create more than 70 jobs within the region during the next six months.

It has just received planning permission for its third residential site, Hathaway, a 12-apartment setting based in Colwyn Bay.
The service will create 60 new jobs and will mirror the same unique independent living model as both Plas Lorna and Arnold House.

A total of 15 jobs are immediately available at its existing residential locations in Rhuddlan and Conwy.

The support worker roles will be based at both Plas Lorna (Rhuddlan) and Arnold House (Conwy) – two unique residential settings for adults, aged 16 to 64, who have complex needs.

The care provisions offer self-contained apartments, allowing for independent living in a secure setting with 24-hour care under the regulation of Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).

The new employees will support and encourage residents with significant learning difficulties to live independently, while at the same time providing consistent and safe care for those vulnerable people.

Each person will receive intensive two-week classroom-based training taught by an in-house trainer before taking part in a three-shift shadowing programme within the setting.

Music sensation Olly Murs has been forced to cancel his summer tour - including a North Wales gig following surgery.

The Essex based singer was forced to undergo major knee surgery and is now recovering in hospital.

The 37 year-old was set to perform in Colwyn Bay's Zipworld Stadium in August, a gig that was postponed from 2021 due to Coronavirus restrictions.

All 20 of the Dance With Me Tonight singer's concerts this summer have now been cancelled as a result of the star's medical issues.
He said: "I am gutted to have to write this message but unfortunately I’ve had to undergo major new knee surgery again this week.
"Been trying my best to avoid having it done but the op was needed and it went well. I’m recovering in hospital

"But it means I’m having to cancel all my summer shows this year whilst I focus on my rehab. Refunds will all be available from your point of purchase and please keep an eye out for any emails from your ticketing agent over the next few days.

The future of an iconic Colwyn Bay building could soon be decided after councillors discussed its future behind closed doors. This week cabinet members discussed the disposal of the council-owned Civic Offices.

The building, which lies beside North Wales Police headquarters on Abergele Road, were vacated in 2019 as part of the local authority's ‘modernisation’ programme. The move saw many council staff leave the Civic Centre as well as its buildings on Dinerth Road in Rhos On Sea, following staff being transferred to the brand-new, purpose-built Coed Pella building in 2018.

Cabinet members discussed the ‘disposal’ of the building as an exempt item on Tuesday with a decision scheduled to be made this week, according to the exempt report, which likely contains sensitive financial information. The report recommendation states: “That Members approve the preferred option for the disposal of the Civic Offices, Colwyn Bay.”

While it’s not known what that option is, it is known that Conwy has received interest from developers. Conwy says it will consider residential, office, and hotel uses for the building. The site is currently listed on the council’s website as ‘for sale’.

Does this mean that the Councilors will actually turn up and vote on this sensitive financial matter?

I seem to remember the Muse Developers cropping up in 2019 when this building was being considered for sale could they be the mystery buyer

Town is 'starting to move' says couple bringing their brand into the centre of Colwyn Bay

A couple are set to bring their natural skincare and candle brand into the centre of Colwyn Bay after taking on their first shop. Natalie and Andrew Bond launched the company ‘Nathalie Bond’ back in 2014.

It came about after the mum-of-three struggled to get mainstream skin products that didn’t contain synthetic chemicals while she was pregnant. This saw her start to create her own organic skincare and candle products that they then decided to develop into a business that has already proved a big success.

They had been based in Sheffield but last summer decided to relocate to North Wales, where Andrew is from originally. They moved into a workshop near Bodnant Gardens in the Conwy Valley with their handcrafted products sold to trade or direct to customers through their website.

But they have now taken on the former Music Makers unit on Penrhyn Road in Colwyn Bay

A council is planning to sell farmland near Old Colwyn in order for around 235 homes to be built on the site. Conwy Council has listed its Ty Mawr site near Old Colwyn as being for sale, with developers asked express their interest in the land back in 2019.

Work such as traffic surveys and ground investigations is now taking place after being slowed by the pandemic, before the council's cabinet selects a development partner for the land later this year. The 37.75-acre site is sandwiched between Old Colwyn and Llysfaen, just off Berth Y Glyd Road and Peulwys Road, and is currently used as farmland.

Planning consent will need to be secured before any development gets underway, but the area is listed for residential development in Conwy’s local development plan. The council said the current farming tenant would be given notice once the sale is agreed.

Describing the land, Conwy’s website boasts that the site is close to both Chester and Manchester. The website reads: “By car and by train Chester is less than 50 minutes away and Manchester is less than 2 hours by train and just over 90 minutes by car.
