You said it Robbie and I won't argue with that.                 Which apartments are you referring to?

Hugo ref affordable housing I've asked our MP what does he reckon the price of affordable should be, he's still trying to come up with a figure, one of my lads bought one of the beech homes off the 470, the same house on the new development has gone up £70 k.

An affordable home is one that is provided at 20% less than the market value, either for rent or purchase. Social Housing to rent is owned by one of the six housing associations we have in Conwy County. A person has to be on the Affordable Homes Register to take advantage of these offers & the register covers all 6 Associations. Developers don't like building these properties as they can't make much of a profit being 20% less than market value.

Thanks very much for providing that information Meleri,  sadly as we have seen in the last 18 months it means that they are still not affordable for local people.
Second home owners have seriously inflated the prices of property in this area and pushed the prices up beyond the reach of young local people as per Norman's previous post.
There are no starter homes being built in the area and we are both old enough to remember the housing estates being built in the 1960's and 1970's in Gyffin, Penrhyn Bay, Colwyn Heights etc.      I bought my first bungalow in Towyn and it was a new two bedroom detached bungalow and it cost me £3,440.00       It was a struggle then but thanks to a Mr F a building society manager I was able to obtain a mortgage for it.     I remember that all the bungalows had either one or two bedrooms apart from two that had three bedrooms.  There were some three bedroomed houses on the estate too.
Now what are they building?   Large four and five bedroom  detached properties that young locals have got no chance of buying.
I feel sorry for CCBC as these developers are dictating what they are going to do and CCBC seems powerless to stop it

I took these photos of the THV Galatea from my balcony a few minutes ago,  I'm not sure what exactly the ship is doing there at this moment

Mrs H was due to go on the A55 but the road was blocked probably due to an accident caused by the torrential rain we have had this morning
Driving conditions were very bad with flood water on parts of Conway Road and other roads going off that road so in the end she did the safest thing and drove home.
With these very wet conditions I wouldn't be surprised if more accidents happen on the A55 today

A rapidly-growing North Wales builder has started work on a £25 million scheme to build over 100 new homes in Colwyn Bay.

Bamber Homes is a new division of the Mochdre-based Brenig Group and has been formed to develop the company’s private housebuilding projects.

Their first venture is on a 13-acre site on Queens Drive, Colwyn Bay, where they will build a mixture of two- to five-bedroom houses and apartments on the former John Braddock and Mary Bamber convalescent centre site.

The plans include 14 executive-style apartments in the John Braddock building, originally built as a luxurious mansion-style home for Lord Colwyn in the 1930s and including a croquet lawn, woodland and a small lake.

Re: Everything to do with Colwyn Bay...social care staffing
« Reply #1604 on: December 01, 2021, 09:45:10 am »
A NORTH Wales specialist health and social care staffing provider is taking radical steps to help tackle the rising demand for care workers in the face of sector-wide shortages across the UK.

Enhanced Healthcare, which supplies temporary healthcare staff across North Wales and England, will invest £100,000 to train job seekers aged 18+ who would like to retrain for a career in care.

The staffing provider says this will pay for 100 job seekers to retrain with their industry-leading ‘Pathway into Care’ course.

The Colwyn Bay-based business is partnering with care homes across North Wales to deliver the comprehensive and fully accredited course, which is designed to give real-world insight into the practicalities of being a carer within a supportive learning environment.

Set over five weeks, the Pathway into Care course starts with four days of theory-based classroom learning, designed to prepare candidates who are new to the care sector for support roles within a care home setting.
