COLWYN BAY shoppers have raised their concerns over a decline in places to go following the permanent closure of the town’s Argos store
“Since Argos has closed buying from Llandudno or even trying to get a delivery was near impossible,” said Jenny Walker. “Llandudno never had any of the items I wanted, therefore haven’t shopped there since April.”

Another commented: “I didn’t expect the Bay store to reopen. Very sadly, a lot of big businesses are cashing ? in on the present situation and shifting more operations online.”

Other readers said Colwyn Bay high street was “closing down one shop at a time way before” the lockdown, while another said “all the shops are disappearing”.

“Kiss of death for Colwyn Bay,” added Philip Andrews. “Can’t buy anything here anymore. Knock-on effect is shoppers going to Llandudno unless you want a pound shop.”

Cllr Abdul Khan, county councillor for Colwyn Bay, said the closure was a surprise but he remains optimistic ? about shopping after the pandemic.

“I think national chain stores like Argos have a role to play in the regeneration of Colwyn Bay and they should reconsider their position,” he said.

“Colwyn Bay is the second largest town in North Wales and at the heart of North Wales, it has good train and bus link.

“The town is undergoing regeneration work both on the promenade and in the town centre, and the opening of numerous cafes like Costa Coffee, many eating establishments as well as privately owned businesses and the new artisan market.

“I would like to invite other national stores to come and invest in Colwyn Bay as this pandemic is not here forever and Colwyn Bay will be the next up-and-coming town for shopping destinations.”

We had a light fall of hail and sheet again on New Year's Eve so it meant clearing the drive again but compared to other parts of the UK we were lucky

While I have been on the laptop a Chinook Helicopter has just flown past and it was way below my house and was flying at about 200 to 300 feet.    It went along the coast past Rhos On sea and appeared to be heading towards Llandudno.
I've no idea what it was up to.

Heard it go over Junction - nothing showing on Freedar or Flight Tracker - but that often seems the case with things flying over these days!

Those Chinooks are very noisy and there is quite a downdraft when they are directly overhead and the sound is quite different to an ordinary helicopter.     I wonder where it was going to?

It's snowing  on the Heights at present but it  is not sticking on the ground at present, probably due to all the rain we have had here already

Re: Everything to do with Colwyn Bay...................NHS dental

ANOTHER dental care provider has expressed an interest in taking on two dental practices which are due to close next month.

Last year, the Pioneer reported that at least 12,000 NHS dental patients had been affected by the decision to close Bupa dental practices on Prince's Drive, Colwyn Bay, and on Cibyn Industrial Estate, Caernarfon, in February 2021.

The two sites are due to close in February but hope is on the horizon as it has been revealed 'positive talks' have commenced with a new provider.

2nd CB story today and second piece of local good news ...........

MORE than 20 jobs have been saved following the sale of a plastic injection molding business in Mochdre.

Nationwide insolvency practitioner SFP has successfully completed the sale of A2B Plastics Limited after the company was placed into administration.

Most of 24 employees’ positions will be safeguarded as a result and specialist manufacturing knowledge will be retained.

David Kemp and Richard Hunt, of SFP, were appointed as Joint Administrators on 20 November 2020.

SFP subsequently achieved a sale of the business and assets to Cygnet Plastics Ltd, which has managed not only to retain key management, and their specialist knowledge, but also a large majority of the workforce.

I've just come back after walking to the local shop and got caught in a heavy snow shower but it has stopped  now.      I wonder what tomorrow will bring with the snow forecast for the area?
It was quite a nice atmosphere walking in the snow and talking to neighbours who were going out sledging with their young children.

A new provider has been announced for around 20,000 NHS dental patients in Colwyn Bay and Caernarfon who feared having nowhere to go for treatment after Bupa closed their surgeries.

Betsi Cadwaladr health board today (Monday) confirmed it had secured a new deal to keep the services going with an existing North Wales dentist, after last November's shock announcement Bupa was pulling out.
